A Dream Born of Necessity: The Inspiration Behind Being Black Hair

After years of concealing her heritage through hair straightening, chemical treatments, ands traight extensions, it was only when designer Danielle Teodoro moved from Brazil to Europe that she found the inspiration to embrace her natural beauty. Influenced by the strength and pride of the Black women around her, Danielle learned to love and honor her 4C curls, a treasured gift from her ancestors. However, as Danielle lived in various European countries, she quickly noticed that the prevailing beauty standards did not align with her reality.

Each day, she encountered curious or sometimes critical glances from passersby. Magazines, advertisements, and even hair salons predominantly showcased straight or wavy hair, seldom featuring hair like hers. Yet, she refused to conform to these standards. She knew her kinky hair was unique, beautiful, and powerful—a testament to her culture and identity. Though she cherished her natural hair, the shrinkage factor did bother her, and like many women, she desired long locks, but without compromising her authenticity.

But in Europe, she soon encountered a significant challenge: the scarcity of high-quality kinky hair for weaves and wigs. Most stores and online retailers predominantly offered straight or wavy hair, seldom catering to the needs of Black women seeking kinky weaves. The few options that were available were often of poor quality, failing to respect the natural texture or meet the expectations of customers.

Frustrated by this situation, she decided to stop searching in vain and create her own solution. This led to the birth of Being Black Hair, an e-commerce platform dedicated to offering high-quality human kinky hair, carefully selected to meet the needs of women of African descent seeking authentic and natural weaves.

Driven by a passion for entrepreneurship and a deep understanding of the unique hair needs of Black women, Danielle embarked on her journey. She spent months researching top suppliers, testing products, and refining every aspect of her business. Her mission was clear: to provide the highest quality human kinky hair, empowering each client to feel beautiful, confident, and true to themselves.
